JOWAI, Feb 28: The Jaintia Tribal Traders’ Association (JTTA) has given the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) a two-week deadline to clarify the allotment process for the nearly completed Iawmusiang Shopping Complex.
The resolution was taken during a general meeting held on Saturday at the Tpep-Pale Community Hall. Association president Iatha Najiar highlighted a significant space deficit, noting that while the new complex contains approximately 300 stalls, there are over 600 vendors in Iawmusiang who currently hold valid permits.
Najiar stated that the association had written to the JHADC on several occasions regarding the shortage of space and the criteria for allotment, but the Council was yet to respond.
The association warned that if the JHADC fails to provide a clear answer within the 14-day period, the vendors will stage a public protest and march to the JHADC office to demand a resolution.
