Shillong, March 1: The Asmita Roll Ball League, organised by the East Khasi Hills Roll Ball Association in collaboration with the Meghalaya Roll Ball Association, concluded on Friday at St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School amid vibrant participation and commendable sporting spirit.
The tournament, held under the Asmita Khelo India initiative of the Government of India, witnessed teams from five districts competing in a spirited display of skill, coordination and determination. The word “Asmita”, symbolising dignity, identity and empowerment, reflects the broader objective of the programme — to strengthen women’s participation in sport and create meaningful opportunities at the grassroots level.Organisers stated that the primary aim of the league was to motivate young girls to take up sports actively, provide them with a competitive platform, and instil qualities such as fitness, confidence, discipline and leadership. The event also served as a talent-identification avenue, helping nurture promising players for future competitions.
Beyond the results, the league stood as a celebration of women’s empowerment through sport. The participants demonstrated resilience, teamwork and passion throughout the competition, embodying the true spirit of Roll Ball.
In the final standings, East Khasi Hills emerged champions, while West Jaintia Hills secured the runners-up position. West Khasi Hills finished as the second runners-up.
The successful conduct of the league marked another step forward in promoting women’s sport in Meghalaya and strengthening the roll ball movement in the region.
