Alleged misappropriation of funds in Khasi Heritage Village project
SHILLONG: The KHADC Executive Committee (EC) has decided to constitute an inquiry committee to probe into alleged anomalies in the expenditures incurred in the Khasi Heritage Village project at Mawphlang.
“We are constituting an inquiry to probe if there is any kind of misappropriation of funds in the implementation of the Khasi Heritage Village project,” KHADC CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said after a meeting of the EC here on Tuesday.
Basaiawmoit had, earlier, admitted that the EC had ‘some doubts’ over the way funds were utilized in the project.
“But we would like to have a detailed discussion on this particular issue in the EC before arriving at any conclusion regarding constituting an inquiry,” he had said.
Former KHADC CEM Pynshngaiñ N Syiem had earlier denied that allegations of misappropriation of funds in the Khasi Heritage Village project.
While reacting to a news report in a vernacular daily, Syiem had denied that an amount of Rs. 6.38 crore had been earmarked for the project as reported.
“I would like to clarify that only an amount of Rs. 5.98 crore was earmarked for the project through the 13th Finance Commission,” Syiem, who is also KHUDA Chairman, had said.
He also clarified that the Council was yet to pay the amount due to consultation firm Anderson Structural Consultant since they were yet to make an assessment of the work at the site.
“We have made it clear that we would pay the full amount only if we are satisfied with the work they have done,” Syiem said.
