Tura, Mar 3: In a historic landmark for Meghalaya and by extension Northeast Indian motorsport, local rally driver Aneesh M Sangma secured the 1st Runner-Up title in the highly competitive Gypsy Category of the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) Season 2025.

The INRC circuit for the year included 5 races in cities across the nation – Coimbatore, Coorg, Bangalore, Indore and Nashik with Aneesh joining the podium in 3 of the 5 races, eventually being crowned first runner up to eventual winner, Sanjay Agarwal from Bengaluru. This is Aneesh’s debut season.

Competing against the nation’s elite drivers across five grueling rounds nationwide, Aneesh demonstrated exceptional consistency, technical skill and endurance. Representing Meghalaya on the national platform, the podium finish marks a significant milestone in the driver’s career and places the state firmly on the Indian rallying map.

Reflecting on his achievement, Sangma shared, “Competing in the INRC amongst the best drivers in the country and representing Meghalaya is a wonderful feeling. Completing five rallies across diverse terrains to secure the 1st Runner-Up spot is a milestone I am incredibly proud of. In rallying, whether you win or lose, there is always something new to learn.”

A veteran of the “King of the Hills” Maruti Gypsy, Sangma, attributed much of this success to the rigorous preparation required for the big stage. As a champion for the growth of the sport in the region, Aneesh offered vital advice for the next generation of racers.

“For upcoming drivers, I strongly suggest preparing yourselves by joining national-level autocross events. It is the best way to sharpen your skills and build the precision needed for the high-stakes environment of the INRC,” said the rallyists.

With the 2025 season concluded, Aneesh said he will forward to further elevate the profile of Meghalaya in the motorsport circuit and continue the pursuit of the top spot on the podium.

“I have been a motorsport fan since ages. I even remember the year 2005 when Tura hosted the INRC. It has been my dream to be a part of this sport and I am happy that I have been able to pursue my dream and come out successful,” he added.
