RTI on custodial death

SHILLONG: The GSU, East Khasi Hills zone and Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) TUR on Wednesday filed an RTI application before the Shillong police asking for documents including postmortem and video related to the custodial death of Balsan Marak using the provision of RTI Act that information has to be given within 48 hours as it concerns the life and liberty of the person.

The public information officer has transferred the RTI application to several public authorities including DG (prisons), SP West Garo Hills, District Medical and Health Officer , West Garo Hills and Medical Superintendent , Civil Hospital, Tura.

Farmers Association condemns death

The Adokgre Farmers Association on Tuesday condemned the alleged police atrocity against Balsan Marak, who died in judicial custody.

During a meeting held on Tuesday, the Association also sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in various problems faced by the people of Garo Hills including the law and order situation.

The meeting also urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to fulfill his election promise to construct the Rongjeng-Mangsang-Adokgre Road.
