World No Tobacco Day observed

SHILLONG: In a bid to send a strong signal demanding for smoke free air, Rotary Club of Orchid City (RCOC) on Friday observed the World No Tobacco Day where students of various schools and colleges participated in order to raise awareness among the people about the ill effects of consumption of tobacco products.

According to experts, India is rated second in world in terms of tobacco consumption and Northeast tops the chart.

“After Mizoram, Meghalaya comes second in terms of tobacco consumption,” Dr Henry, an expert in the field informed adding, “Government should raise the tax on tobacco products.”

“Meghalaya has the highest number of cancer patients due to tobacco consumption,” he added.
