TURA: In a much delayed reaction to the threat issued by the Personal Assistant to the Commander in Chief of the ANVC (B), Do’gamdot Rangra R Marak to forcibly dissolve the FKJGP, Garo Hills Zone, the federation has defended itself saying that no intimation was received by it from the ANVC (B) either in the form of a phone call or a formal letter leaving the federation with no position to comment on the events without having any proper knowledge of the whole situation.

“If the ANVC (B) felt that they were being victimized by the FKJGP, they could have approached us either in person or could have intimated us in writing only then could we have acted,” the president of the FKJGP, Pritam R Marak said in a statement.

It may be reminded that a couple of weeks back the militant leader had demanded the dissolution of the FKJGP, Garo Hills Zone for failing to take up the issue of a designated camp for ANVC (B) cadres in West Khasi Hills which was being vehemently opposed by its counterpart in Khasi Hills along with other NGOs and political parties.

The militant leader had given an ultimatum of one month for the dissolution of the federation.

The FKJGP president said that the accusations of the ANVC (B) that it was against the peace process in Garo Hills was unfounded adding that the statement seemed to have been made without any proper deliberation.

“The FKJGP is a part and parcel of the United Peace Forum for Garo Hills (UPMGH) and further speculation will reveal that the FKJGP was instrumental in affiliating other NGOs in the UPMGH,” he claimed.

Marak also said that the FKJGP, Garo Hills Zone has been courteous to every other organization not just in Garo Hills but the whole of Meghalaya adding that it expected the same from other organizations as well.

“We do not subscribe to the idea of unceremoniously disregarding and alleging other associations without any evidence to substantiate such allegations,” he said and added that it is never against peace and would always stand by to ensure it by every means possible.
