SHILLONG, March 14: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has asserted that the reduction in budget allocation for the Education department will not hamper its functioning or student welfare.
Last year, Rs 3,654 crore was allocated to the department, but the figure was reduced to Rs 3,347 crore in this year’s budget.
Acknowledging the decrease, Rymbui maintained that the lower allocation would not affect infrastructure development or the payment of teachers’ salaries.
The state government has committed to rolling out a new pay structure for a section of teachers starting April 1.
