SHILLONG, March 14: Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang on Friday said the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 recognises the essential role of youth in shaping India’s future.
Speaking at the District Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Marbaniang noted that India is a young nation, with approximately 65 percent of the population under the age of 35. “The government recognises the power of the youth in nation-building. Programmes like the Youth Parliament provide young people with an opportunity to hone their skills and prepare for leadership,” he said.
NEHU Dean of Students’ Welfare RL Nongkhlaw highlighted the importance of youth participation in strengthening democratic and developmental processes. He added that the platform helps students understand parliamentary traditions and engage in debates on public policy.
More than 65 students from across the district participated in the session, simulating parliamentary procedures. Following the discussions, ten winners were selected to represent the district at the state-level competition.
Organisers said the event allowed youth to express their ideas and demonstrate their commitment to the country’s democratic and developmental progress.
