Akasa joins Air India, IndiGo in levying fuel surcharges

New Delhi, March 14: Akasa Air will levy fuel surcharges ranging from Rs 199 to Rs 1,300 on domestic and international flight tickets from March 15 due to the spike in jet fuel prices amid the West Asia conflict. Air India, Air India Express and IndiGo have started levying similar charges on domestic and international flight tickets. In a statement on Saturday, Akasa Air said it would levy fuel surcharge for each flight and the quantum would vary based on the duration of the flight. (PTI)

MP primary school teacher suspended for mimicking PM

Shivpuri, March 14: A government school teacher in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district was suspended after a video of him mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi while making satirical remarks on LPG cylinder prices went viral on social media, an official said on Saturday. Saket Purohit, a teacher at the government primary school, was suspended with immediate effect late Friday night under the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Rules. In the video, Purohit can be heard stating that increase in gas prices would make people return to eating rotis cooked on traditional stoves, which would narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. The probe by the district education office began after the video went viral, resulting in submission of a written complaint by Pichhore BJP MLA Preetam Lodhi. In his complaint, Lodhi claimed such remarks and mimicry of the prime minister and public representatives by a government teacher violated service conduct rules and conveyed an inappropriate message to society. Man held for reckless driving with elderly man on bonnet

Ahmedabad, March 14: A 29-year-old man was arrested in Ahmedabad in Gujarat for allegedly driving his car recklessly while an elderly person was clinging on to the vehicle’s bonnet in distress, a police official said on Saturday. The incident, a video of which went viral on social media, took place in Nikol area at around 10:30pm on Friday, I-Division Traffic police inspector SI Sumra said. The police, however, have not been able to trace the victim as yet. In the video, the elderly man can be seen trying hard to hold on to the bonnet while the car is being driven recklessly. (PTI)

HIV positive man injects his blood to woman after wedding called off

Hyderabad, March 14: A 24-year-old man allegedly administered HIV-infected blood to a 22-year-old woman when her parents called off her wedding with him after he tested positive for the contagion, police said on Saturday. The incident happened on March 11, when the accused forcibly injected HIV-infected blood into the victim at her house. As the man was found HIV positive during a check-up, the woman’s father cancelled his daughter’s marriage with him, a police official said, adding the accused resorted to the act thinking that she would marry him. (PTI)
