SHILLONG, March 15: The Shillong centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has introduced a new service allowing the public to receive regular weather updates via WhatsApp by scanning a QR code.
Head of IMD Shillong, T Lhouvum, said the initiative aims to make forecasts more accessible and timely across the state. The system will provide updates at multiple intervals, including hourly, three-hourly, fortnightly, and weekly forecasts, helping residents plan daily activities more effectively.
Lhouvum noted that the region is currently in the pre-monsoon period, marked by intermittent rainfall and shifting weather patterns. He added that accurate and timely updates will be particularly beneficial for farmers and various government departments as the monsoon season approaches.
The IMD has encouraged citizens to scan the official QR code to subscribe to these daily weather alerts and forecast updates on their mobile phones.
