Chennai: More than 100 volunteers of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) were today arrested when they staged an agitation protesting the screening of well-known Director Prakash Jha’s film Aarakshan starring Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan.

Led by PMK City Leader D Jayaraman, more than 100 volunteers, including women, assembled before the Satyam Cinemas, where the film is being screened and shouted slogans, demanding the film be banned for propogating views against reservation in education and government jobs for dalits and other oppressed communities.

Mr Jayaraman said Tamil Nadu Government should ban the film on the lines of Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab.

When these states had banned the film, it was unfortunate that it was being screened in Tamil Nadu, the birth place of reservation, he said. (UNI)
