SHILLONG, March 16: Shubham Charitable Association, supported by Star Cement, organised a menstrual hygiene awareness programme on Monday for over 400 students from Ramakrishna Mission Secondary School, Swer, and Village Dorbar School.
According to a statement here, the initiative, held in collaboration with Operation Clean Up and Martin Luther Christian University, focused on health, hygiene and environmental responsibility.
During the awareness programme, educators addressed common myths and taboos while teaching students about safe menstrual practices.
As part of the ‘She-Rise Zero Waste Period Mission’, reusable sanitary pads were distributed to promote sustainable, eco-friendly solutions.
The effort is intended to reduce plastic-based waste and support the vision of a plastic-free Meghalaya.
An interactive session was also held to encourage open discussions, allowing girls to ask questions freely and gain confidence in managing their menstrual health with dignity and awareness.
“Teachers and school authorities warmly appreciated the initiative, recognising it as an important step toward empowering young girls with knowledge, confidence and sustainable health practices,” the statement said.
