Assembly polls: AIUDF releases second list of candidates; Party chief to contest from Binnakandi

GUWAHATI, March 17: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) party president Badruddin Ajmal will contest the upcoming Assam Assembly elections from the Binnakandi constituency, the party revealed after releasing its second list of 12 candidates on Tuesday.

According to the second list, Hafiz Bashir Ahmed has been nominated from Goalpara East constituency, Nazrul Hoque will contest from Dhubri; Mazibur Rahman has been fielded from Dalgaon while Ashraful Hussain will contest from Chenga and look to retain the seat.

The party has also nominated Abdul Aziz from Samaguri, Shihab Uddin from Karimganj South, Imdad Hussain from Chamarajanagar, Jamsher Talukdar from Golakganj while Musukha Basumatary will contest from Bijni constituency.

On the other hand, Mukut Das has been nominated as the candidate from Raha, which is reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), while Anup Kumar Das Talukdar will contest from Ram Krishna Nagar (SC) constituency.

The Ajmal-led party had, a week back, announced its first list of nine nominees for the Assembly elections.

With the announcement of its second list, the party, which is putting up a solo fight against the BJP-led NDA and Congress-led Opposition alliance, has further intensified its preparations for the Assembly elections, scheduled on April 9.

According to party sources, additional candidates for the remaining constituencies are expected to be announced in the coming days.

The party, which currently has 15 legislators in the House, is expected to contest around 25 of the 126 Assembly seats in the upcoming elections.
