SHILLONG, March 17: The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) has come under fresh scrutiny after an apparent omission of the word “Jaintia” from the Khasi-Jaintia category in its recent recruitment advertisement for the post of Assistant Engineer.
According to the advertisement issued on March 10 for two vacant posts in the Urban Affairs Department, the reservation categorisation mentions one post for the Khasi category and one for the Garo category. The absence of the term “Jaintia” has raised concerns, as the standard classification typically refers to the combined Khasi-Jaintia category.
The issue has triggered widespread debate, with screenshots of the advertisement going viral on social media. Several users have questioned the omission, asking whether it was an oversight or indicative of a larger issue.
A message accompanying the viral screenshot stated, “When even official documents start erasing names, it is no longer a ‘small mistake.’ The recent MPSC advertisement for Assistant Engineer omits ‘Jaintia’ from the Khasi-Jaintia category… Identity is not a technical detail. It is recognition, representation, and respect.”
