SHILLONG: The room of the accountant of the premiere city hotel Polo Towers was completely gutted in a major fire that broke out at around 10 pm on Sunday.

Though some suspect it a foul play, police ruled out foul play angle saying that electric short circuit was the cause of the fire.

Downplaying the foul pay angle, an investigating officer said that no one entered the room after 2pm.

Important documents and files besides computer set and furniture were completely gutted in the fire.

As soon as the fire broke out, all the inmates of the hotel were evacuated safely.

Altogether, three fire tenders were pressed into service.
