Shillong, March 23: The Late P.A. Sangma Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament 2026, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, witnessed two contrasting encounters as Sputnik Spartan and RangKynsai SC emerged victorious in their respective matches.
In the first fixture, Sputnik Spartan produced a composed run chase to defeat Shillong Sixers by six wickets. After winning the toss and opting to field, Sputnik Spartan restricted Shillong Sixers to 106 for 6 in their 20 overs. Kevin Christopher anchored the innings with a patient 54 off 54 deliveries, while Suraj Chettri added 12 runs. The standout performer with the ball was Supriyo Chanda, who delivered a match-defining spell of 4 for 12 in his four overs, dismantling the Sixers’ batting lineup. In reply, Sputnik Spartan reached the target comfortably, finishing at 107 for 4 in 17.5 overs. Hameki Susngi contributed a steady 30 off 30 balls, while Uttam Chanda remained unbeaten on 28 off 28 to guide the side home. For Shillong Sixers, Lakhan Singh impressed with figures of 3 for 12 in his four overs, but his effort was not enough to prevent defeat. Supriyo Chanda was deservedly named Player of the Match for his four-wicket haul.
In the second match, RangKynsai SC delivered a dominant all-round performance to secure an 82-run win over United XI via the DLS method in a rain-affected contest.
Batting first after United XI opted to field, RangKynsai SC posted a formidable 217 for 6 in 20 overs. Ram Gurung led from the front with an unbeaten 50 off 35 balls, while Kishan Lyngdoh provided explosive support with a quickfire 45 off 22 deliveries. Among the bowlers, Bijon Dey conceded just 18 runs in his four overs while picking up a wicket, whereas Bharat Gurung claimed two wickets. The chase, however, never gained momentum for United XI. With the match curtailed, RangKynsai SC were declared winners by 82 runs under the DLS method. Ram Gurung’s all-round brilliance earned him the Player of the Match award.
