Shillong, March 24: Meghalaya’s Amit Ram has emerged as one of the standout performers at the ongoing MTA AITA Pro Circuit Men’s ₹1 Lakh Tennis Tournament 2026, advancing to the quarterfinals of the men’s singles event in a spirited run that has delighted the home crowd.
Competing against some of the country’s top players, the local talent has showcased grit and composure, marking a significant milestone for the state in a national-level competition.
The tournament, being organised by the Meghalaya Tennis Association at the Shillong Club Tennis Courts, has now entered a crucial phase, with players battling intensely for a place in the latter stages.
Featuring a competitive draw of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams, the event has lived up to expectations, delivering high-quality tennis and closely fought encounters.
Top seeds have largely justified their billing, with Irfan Hussain, Mayand Tewary, Nishith Naveen and Tushar Mittal progressing steadily through the rounds.
At the same time, a few unexpected results and tight matches have added an element of intrigue, keeping spectators engaged throughout the competition.
In the doubles category, seeded pairs have maintained their dominance, moving confidently towards the business end of the tournament with consistent performances.With enthusiastic support from tennis enthusiasts in Shillong, the atmosphere at the venue continues to remain vibrant.
