SHILLONG, March 24: A memorial service for former Shillong MP Ricky Andrew J Syngkon was held on Tuesday at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, where Members of Parliament and leaders gathered to pay their final respects.
Organised by the bereaved family, the service was attended by MPs from several Northeastern states, members of the Christian Parliamentary Forum, and representatives of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), including spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh and MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang.
Speakers at the event recalled Dr Syngkon’s contributions as a parliamentarian, noting that despite his short tenure, he made a significant impact through his dedication and active participation in debates.
A video presentation reflecting on his time in Parliament was also screened.
The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating that the late leader’s life should serve as an inspiration to remain humble, honest, and steadfast in faith.
Earlier on March 17, a thanksgiving service was held at the Free Church, Sansad Marg, organised by the Indian Christian Parliamentarians Council.
The service was attended by various dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi. Council chairman Anto Antony and vice chairman P Wilson also paid tribute to Dr Syngkon, describing him as a committed public servant with a legacy of integrity.
