Shillong-Dawki road closure near Mawlieh from tomorrow

SHILLONG, March 25: A section of the Shillong–Dawki road near Mawlieh will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 9 AM on March 26 until further notice. The closure, affecting the stretch between chainage 35+350 and 35+450, has been ordered for planned blasting and restoration works. These operations are part of Package II of the road development project, currently being executed by YFC Projects Pvt. Ltd. in joint venture with AEC Constructions. Commuters have been advised to avoid the affected area and use alternative routes until further updates are issued.

College in NGH holds seminar on India’s freedom movement

TURA, March 25: A national seminar on ‘Freedom Movement of India and its Post Independence Development with Special Reference to the State of Meghalaya’, sponsored by the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi, was jointly organised by the Department of History and Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC, Mendipathar College, Mendipathar on Wednesday. About 25 paper presenters presented research papers on various aspects pertaining to the main theme and sub-themes of the Seminar. About 200 participants including faculty members from various institutions, research scholars and students attended the seminar. North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Abhishek Saini was the chief guest.

Global conference on social philosophy, yoga begins at NEHU

SHILLONG, March 25: The 18th International Congress of Social Philosophy (ICSP) and the 12th International Congress of Yoga and Spiritual Science (ICYS) began a joint global conference at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Wednesday. The inaugural session focused on how philosophical thought and yogic practices can foster national integration and global harmony. To mark the occasion, indigenous saplings from the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo Hills were planted, symbolising the link between local identity and global responsibility. Speakers highlighted the need to address contemporary challenges such as social fragmentation and geopolitical tensions through a transformation of human values. Delivering the inaugural lecture, “Yoga: The Philosophy, Science, Technology,” Prof Aditya Kumar Mohanty described yoga as an integrative discipline that connects individual well-being with collective harmony. The session also featured the presentation of the Darshana Ratna and Yoga Ratna awards for significant contributions to the fields of philosophy and yoga. A special lecture on the “Philosophy of Communication” further addressed the importance of dialogue in bridging cultural and ideological divides. In the afternoon, Dr Nandini Mishra discussed the social philosophy of the Bhagavad Gītā as a foundation for peace, while Prof Nimali Thakshila spoke on the Buddhist “Middle Path” as a framework for non-violent engagement.
