SHILLONG, March 26: The Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Umsawli Campus, hosted Lyngwiar ’26, a two-day management fest organised by the School of Economics, Commerce and Management in collaboration with PRIME Meghalaya.
Held on March 25-26, the event brought together approximately 250 participants from various colleges and organisations under the theme ‘From Hearth to Horizon: Transforming Knowledge into Innovation and Leadership’.
During the inaugural session, Dr. Yoowanka Lyngdoh explained that the concept of ‘Lyngwiar’ is drawn from Khasi cultural traditions, symbolising a gathering around the hearth to share wisdom across generations.
The fest aimed to bridge this indigenous knowledge with modern management practices. Nathaniel Kharkongor, senior manager at PRIME Hub Meghalaya, spoke on the relevance of preserving traditional wisdom for sustainable development and economic growth.
Chief guest Dr. Andrew Simons encouraged students to embrace resilience and innovation to transform knowledge into effective leadership.
The session also featured the release of a book titled Bridging Academic Research and Industry Innovation: A Two-Way Approach.
A technical expert session featured industry leaders and academicians discussing digital transformation, organisational change and customer-centric strategies.
The experts highlighted the importance of integrating modern technology with local traditions and addressed challenges within Meghalaya’s education sector, calling for systemic reforms to improve quality.
The second day focused on practical applications through competitions such as case study analysis, business plan presentations, and creative advertising. These activities were designed to enhance teamwork and critical thinking among students.
The fest concluded with a valedictory session and prize distribution.
