Jurisdiction of the State Level Scrutiny panel challenged

SHILLONG: Tennydard M Marak has shot off a letter to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker AT Mondal asking him to request Chief Minister Mukul M Sangma, and his younger brother, Zenith M Sangma, incumbent Cabinet Minister, Sports & Youth Affairs, Excise, Sericulture & weaving, Housing, to step down from the public offices they presently hold in the interest of justice and fair play as they are not legally entitled to hold public office as well as subsequently, restraining them from attending and participating in all the proceedings and restraining them from exercising their vote in any matter pertaining to any proceedings of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly till the final disposal of the Court cases pending before the Supreme Court of India.

Tennydard M Marak has filed a Writ Petition before the Supreme Court of India challenging the jurisdiction and legality of the State Level Scrutiny Committee.

He said that it would be inappropriate to allow Dr. Mukul M Sangma and Zenith Sangma to take part in the coming session of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly keeping in view of the pendency of the Supreme Court Cases.
