Raniganj/ Purulia, March 28: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday accused the BJP of trying to “destroy Bengal” and warned that such actions would lead to the party losing power nationally.
Speaking at rallies in Raniganj, Kashipur, and Raghunathpur, she alleged that the Election Commission, acting at the BJP’s behest, deleted 1.2 crore voter names through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Banerjee promised free legal aid to affected voters and insisted that everyone’s right to vote must be protected, calling the SIR exercise the BJP’s potential “death knell.”
She claimed that if the BJP came to power in the state, it would use bulldozers to evict citizens and even attempt to abolish Bengal’s statehood. Banerjee vowed to unite anti-BJP parties to “capture Delhi” after her fourth consecutive term.
She also criticized inaction during Ram Navami violence in Murshidabad and suggested the central government might use the West Asia conflict as a pretext for a lockdown.
Highlighting TMC’s achievements, Banerjee cited development projects, infrastructure expansion, and social welfare programs like Lakshmir Bhandar and Yuva Sathi.
She claimed her government created 2 crore jobs and reduced unemployment by 40%, contrasting this with the Centre’s unfulfilled promises. She urged TMC workers to remain vigilant and women to resist political adversity. (PTI)
