Shillong, March 29: A spirited display of stamina and determination marked the first Inter-School Invitation Mini Marathon organised by the Gorkha Association, Shillong, on Sunday.
Held for boys and girls separately, the event saw participation from more than 100 students representing 10 schools across the city.
The marathon, which carried the theme “Say No to Drugs”, combined athletic competition with social awareness, challenging students to push their limits while promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Winners from first to fifth place in each category were awarded cash prizes and certificates, celebrating both sporting achievement and participation.
Speaking about the event, the organisers highlighted that the marathon aimed not just to showcase athletic talent, but also to instil confidence, self-esteem, and discipline among young participants. “This is a small step by the Gorkha Association to fight the menace of drugs, but a giant leap for society,” said a spokesperson.
The enthusiastic turnout and spirited competition underscored the growing interest among youth in sports initiatives that also carry a meaningful message. The Gorkha Association has pledged to continue such initiatives to nurture athletic talent while promoting social causes in the community.
