Mumbai, March 30: Rohit Sharma became the highest run-scorer against a single team in the history of the Indian Premier League, overtaking Virat Kohli during Mumbai Indians’ opening fixture of the 2026 season.
With his latest outing against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rohit took his aggregate to 1,161 runs in 36 matches against the franchise, at an average of 40.03. In doing so, he went past Kohli’s tally of 1,159 runs in 36 matches against Punjab Kings, which had stood as the benchmark for several seasons.Rohit’s record has been compiled over multiple years while representing both Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, highlighting his long-standing consistency against KKR in the league.
The milestone further adds to Rohit’s overall standing in the tournament, where he is currently the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history. Across 273 matches, he has amassed 7,124 runs at an average of 29.93, including 48 half-centuries and two centuries.Kohli, meanwhile, now occupies the second position on the list. (Agencies)
