Shillong, March 31: The Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) has nominated B. Kyrmenskhem Lyngdoh from Upper Lumparing to attend the prestigious Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling from April 1 to 28, 2026.
The selection for the course is based on merit, with preference given to association members who have excelled at National and Zonal Championships, recognising their performance and potential in sport climbing and mountaineering. The training programme is being sponsored by the Office of the Director, Directorate General of Assam Rifles.
The BMC is a foundational programme aimed at introducing participants to the core aspects of mountaineering. It combines both theoretical and practical training, covering essential techniques of movement across rock, snow and ice, along with subjects such as navigation, map reading, weather awareness, basic medicine and mountain hygiene. The course also focuses on developing the right mindset, encouraging trainees to view mountaineering as a disciplined art form rather than merely an adventure activity.
In addition, the programme seeks to build physical endurance and resilience, enabling participants to adapt to challenging mountain environments while promoting awareness about the conservation of the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. It also aims to inspire individuals to take on higher challenges in the field.
MeSCMA conveyed its best wishes to Lyngdoh for the upcoming training and expressed confidence in his future contributions to mountaineering.
