SHILLONG: The regularisation of casual labourers working in the Myntdu Leshka Hydel project may take some time even as several NGOs from Jaintia Hills have demanded that regularization of the non-technical Grade IV staff should be done at the earliest.

Talking to The Shillong Times here on Friday, the Chief Project Manger of the Myntdu Leshka Hydel project Alias Lyngdoh said “the regularisation process is on but it may take some time.”

At present around 150 to 200 contractual workers are working in the plant.

According to Lyngdoh, the details of the workers were being prepared and by September the same would be forwarded to the Board of Directors for approval

“We will send their details by September and then the Board of directors would start the process of regularisation,” Lyngdoh said.

The War Jaintia unit of Jaintia Youth Federation in a petition submitted to the chairman of the MeECL has demanded that labourers belonging to War Jaintia community should get the first preference in the regularization process.

However, Lyngdoh maintained that the labourers would be appointed permanently once the project starts functioning fully.
