SHILLONG, March 31: NPP MLA and former Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh is not keen on contesting the Shillong Parliamentary By-election as she wants to focus on the 2028 Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said she has begun preparations for the Assembly polls and she does not wish to be distracted.
She, however, stated that if the NPP decides to field her for the Shillong Lok Sabha bypoll, she is bound by her affiliation to the party.
According to Lyngdoh, the NPP has sought one month’s time to discuss and finalise the candidate for the upcoming by-election.
Reacting to speculations that many MLAs are planning to quit NPP before 2028, she said many MLAs are even planning to join the ruling party.
Terming this as a typical situation in the Indian democracy, she added that it would not be simple for any MLA to suddenly leave one political party and align with another.
