SHILLONG, March 31: The Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) has secured a B+ grade in the Consumer Service Rating of Discoms (CSRD), conducted by the Ministry of Power in association with the Rural Electrification Corporation. Among 66 power distribution companies across the country, MePDCL was ranked 48th.
MePDCL performed strongly in several key areas: it secured an A+ in operational reliability, B+ in connection and other services, B+ in fault rectification and grievance redressal, while receiving a C+ in metering, billing and connection. The Distribution Transformer failure rate stood at 5.54%.
The Interruption Index, a key benchmark for the overall stability and resilience of the power distribution system, was 103.47 in urban areas and 119.19 in rural areas for MePDCL.
According to official data, the average daily power supply currently stands at 23.06 hours in urban areas and 22.89 hours in rural areas. Hours of Supply (HoS) is a crucial indicator of the reliability of the power supply, with higher levels reflecting the robustness of the distribution system.
Additionally, the percentage of bills paid digitally by MePDCL consumers is 25%.
The report evaluates electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) across key service parameters and highlights a positive shift in operational efficiency, reliability, and consumer-centric practices across the country. It also notes a consistent improvement in DISCOM performance over the past three years, with the number of utilities in higher rating bands (A+, A, and B+) nearly doubling compared to FY 2022–23, while the share of DISCOMs in lower categories has steadily declined.
Delhi’s BRPL, BYPL, and TPDDL secured the top three ranks in the overall consumer service ratings.
