SHILLONG: NPP legislator James K Sangma has questioned the State Government for announcing an ex-gratia of only Rs 1 lakh to the family of the 35-year-old victim, Josbina M Sangma, who was murdered by GNLA militants in Chokpot on Tuesday.

“If the Government can award Rs. 3 lakh to each of the eight migrant labourers who hailed from Goalpara, Assam, I could not understand why the Government has only announced Rs. 1 lakh to this poor family,” Sangma said, while moving an adjournment motion in the Assembly on Friday.

Terming this as a clear case of the corrupt practices of the Government, the NPP legislator said, “The Government should give the family an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 10 lakh since the four children have lost their mother who was earning a living by running a tea shop.”
