SHILLONG, April 5: The Meghalaya government has approved the renaming of the Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards (MSHG) as the State Industrial Security Force (SISF), marking a step towards strengthening security at key installations in the state.
The SISF is the outcome of an IGP/DGP conference held in 2021, convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). All states are required to establish a SISF to ease the workload of the Central Industrial Security Force or CISF.
Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri informed that the MSHG, comprising permanent Home Guards personnel responsible for guarding the three Secretariat buildings, has also been supported by Home Guards volunteers to enhance security coverage.
He stated that the decision follows a directive from the Government of India, which has called on all states to establish a State Industrial Security Force (SISF) to protect important government and industrial infrastructure.
“In line with this directive, the state government has approved the renaming of the Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards (MSHG) as the Meghalaya Industrial Security Force (MISF),” Mantri said.
He added that the move is part of a broader plan to eventually raise a full-fledged MISF battalion in the state. The force will function under the command and control of the Civil Defence and Home Guards department.
