TURA, April 8: The Constitutional Rights’ Forum (CRF) has called for the GHADC to become the sole custodian of its electoral rolls, arguing against the duplication of data from Election Commission of India (ECI) rolls.
In a memorandum submitted to GHADC CEM Dhormonath Sangma on Tuesday, the group stated that an independent database is essential to safeguard the constitutional mandate of the district council.
To ensure transparency, the CRF proposed a formal enrollment process similar to assembly or parliamentary elections. It suggested that applicants fill out specific forms to ensure each individual is verified through a standard administrative procedure.
The forum further argued that while standard enrollment requires proof of citizenship and age, the GHADC roll should include specific measures to protect indigenous interests. This includes mandating the submission of a caste certificate during the application process to verify eligibility within the context of the Autonomous District Council. The group urged the council to reform the electoral process before the next elections to ensure the integrity of the GHADC administration.
