Nitish Kumar to take oath as Rajya Sabha member today
NEW DELHI, April 9: Bihar’s long-time chief minister Nitish Kumar will take oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Friday, paving the way for the formation of a new government in Bihar.Kumar arrived in the national capital on Thursday and was welcomed at the airport by party leaders including JD-U’s national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha.“I have arrived here to take oath,” Kumar told reporters at the airport.He will be administered the oath as a member of the upper house in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan.With Kumar assuming his Rajya Sabha role, marking the end of his over rule in Bihar, the NDA is likely to elect a new chief minister of Bihar on April 14.Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said Nitish Kumar will take the oath after being elected to the Rajya Sabha and will soon relinquish the post of chief minister. Congress not to contest Baramati assembly bypoll
PUNE, April 9: The Opposition Congress on Thursday opted out of the bypoll to the Baramati assembly seat in Maharashtra at the last moment, giving a virtual walkover to ruling NCP candidate and Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar though a contest will still take place as 22 other nominees remain in the fray.After initially appearing firm to contest the April 23 bypoll, necessitated due to the death of former Deputy Chief Minister and sitting Baramati MLA Ajit Pawar, the husband of Sunetra, the Congress withdrew its candidate in the wake of calls from ruling allies Nationalist Congress Party, BJP and also its Opposition partner NCP (SP).Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, state Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal sought to frame the decision to climbdown as a move rooted in Maharashtra’s political culture and decorum and referred to the death of Ajit Pawar in an air crash just over two months ago. Woman, lover conspire to get husband killed
DHAR (MP), April 9: A 25-year-old woman and her lover have been arrested in the district for allegedly conspiring to kill her husband by hiring a contract killer, police said on Thursday.The case was solved within 36 hours of the murder though the woman initially tried to mislead the police by claiming that robbers killed her husband, an official said.Dev Krishna Purohit (28) was stabbed to death on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at his house.Police said that the accused Priyanka Purohit (25) was married to Dev Krishna when she was around 15 years old. Priyanka moved to her matrimonial home after attaining adulthood but was unwilling to live with her husband, leading to frequent disputes between them.During investigation, it emerged that she was in a relationship with Kamlesh (32).w The duo allegedly hatched a plan to kill Dev Krishna and hired a man identified as Surendra for Rs 1 lakh do the job, he said After Dev Krishna was killed, Priyanka told police that unidentified persons broke into the house, attacked her husband with a sharp weapon while holding her captive in another room, and fled with valuables.But the inconsistencies in her statements and she eventually confessed.
