Modi urges voters to oust ‘nirmam’ TMC govt from Bengal; promises six guarantees if BJP wins
KOLKATA, April 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday went all guns blazing against the ruling TMC, accusing it of lawlessness and unleashing ‘maha jungle raj’ by referring to the Bagtui carnage of 2022, in which around 10 women and children were burnt alive in Birbhum district.
Addressing an election rally at the district headquarters Suri, Modi intensified the BJP’s infiltration plank, citing last week’s gherao of judicial officers in Malda to slam the Mamata Banerjee administration and reiterate his conviction of getting the country rid of “illegal entrants”.
“I stand before you today to make this promise: Once there is a change of guard in state power following these elections, I will initiate a special inquiry against the facilitators of infiltration in this state and put them behind bars,” Modi declared.
“The Trinamool Congress’ slogan of ‘Maa-Mati-Manush’ (mother, land, people) has become nothing more than empty rhetoric. While ‘Ma’ is crying and ‘Manush’ is reeling under the fear of the goons of the TMC regime, land encroachment by infiltrators under the current dispensation has reached dangerous proportions,” he added.
Referring to the Bagtui killings in Rampurhat, not far from where the PM spoke, Modi said the incident stood testimony to “TMC’s maha jungle raj” which thrived on the unholy nexus of syndicate, mafia and corrupt politicians.
“Cottage industry has been rapidly declining in West Bengal, but the TMC has turned crude bombs into a household affair in the state,” the PM said.
Resuming his discourse on infiltration, Modi said infiltrators were usurping the jobs of locals by accepting work contracts for less money and forcing the indigenous people to migrate.
He pledged that unauthorised entrants will be deported and their facilitators jailed after the BJP comes to power in Bengal.
“The entire nation has witnessed what happened during the Malda siege, where judicial officers were held hostage. They have introduced a reign of terror in this state, and the need of the hour is to free the people from that atmosphere of fear and intimidation,” he said.
MODI’S GUARANTEES
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced six guarantees for Bengal if the BJP wins the Assembly polls and sought the ouster of the “’nirmam’” (cruel) TMC government, accusing it of “setting new parameters of development debacle and pulling the state back”.
Addressing a rally at the port city of Haldia in Purba Medinipur, which also doubles up as one of the state’s industrial hotspots, Modi assured the people of rescuing the state from the existing “reign of fear” and creating an atmosphere of all-pervading “trust”.“While the entire country is walking on the path of progress, the TMC’s Nirmam Sarkar is pulling Bengal back in a sustained manner. To usher in a Viksit Bengal, it is essential to remove the TMC’s ‘Nirmam Sarkar’,” the prime minister said.
In his bid to take the wind out of the sails of CM Mamata Banerjee, who alleged the BJP would impose restrictions on eating fish if it wins the polls, Modi alleged the TMC government failed to match fish production with its high demand in the state.
“Bengal has a high demand for fish. Yet it imports fish from other states. In the last 15 years, the TMC government has taken no worthwhile step to enhance supply and attain self-sufficiency in fish production,” he said.
The prime minister promised the people of West Bengal that the BJP would make the state self-sufficient in fisheries and the seafood sector, while highlighting that the BJP government at the Centre has set up a dedicated ministry for the welfare of the fisherfolk and allotted a record budget for them.
Underlining “six Modi guarantees” for the people, the prime minister said the BJP, once in power in the state, will replace the TMC’s “reign of fear” with the BJP’s “trust”.
Modi pledged to bring about changes in the governance system and make public servants accountable to citizens for their actions, stating his second guarantee.
“The BJP will reopen all files on corruption and crimes committed against women in Bengal, which the TMC has suppressed,” he added, spelling out his “third guarantee”.“All leaders, irrespective of their positions in government, who are involved in corruption will be in jail. No TMC goons can escape the clutches of law,” he added as the fourth. While pledging that the benefits of government facilities and schemes will be made available to all refugees who took shelter in India legally, Modi underlined that “infiltrators won’t be allowed to stay in this country”.“Once the BJP government is formed, we will immediately implement the 7th Pay Commission in Bengal for state employees, teachers and those working in related sectors,” the PM said, elaborating his final guarantee.
