GUWAHATI, April 10: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced re-polling at a polling station in Sribhumi district, to be conducted from 7am to 5pm on Saturday.

The Commission, under Sub-Section (2) (A) of Section 58 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, declared the polling held for the Legislative Assembly elections at Babyland High English School polling station under Karimganj North Assembly constituency on Thursday as void, ordering a fresh poll.

According to reports, some miscreants had entered the said polling station without permission, took control of the EVM there, and disrupted the polling process by illegally casting several votes.

The Commission took the decision for a repoll at the said polling centre on the basis of reports submitted, and after taking all material circumstances into account.

Notably, polling for the single-phase Assam Legislative Assembly elections was conducted, by and large peacefully, across 126 Assembly constituencies in the state on Thursday, registering an overall final voter turnout of 85.91 percent.
