SHILLONG: The much- awaited monsoon is expected to hit the Northeast including Meghalaya within next 24 hours, the regional meteorological centre, Guwahati said on Monday.

The official of the meteorological centre said that the scheduled date for monsoon for Northeast was on June 5. “However, the conditions are now favourable for the monsoon to arrive within next 24 hours”, the official said. Though the scheduled date of arrival of Monsoon in Kerala was June 1, it hit the state after five days (June 6).

According to the official, heavy rain is likely to lash Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in the next 72 hours following the onset of monsoon.
