TURA: The Auto Drivers’ Association Ampati organized a rally from Ampati Mini Stadium to Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday in protest against the killing of a 26-year-old auto driver by suspected militants on Sunday. It may be recalled that the victim, one Surender Paul of Mahendraganj area, who earned his living by driving his auto-rickshaw in Ampati was shot by two youths near Chepagre village for refusing to give them a lift. Although he was brought to Tura Civil Hospital for treatment, the victim succumbed to his injuries on arrival.
Over a 100 auto-rickshaws paraded slowly through the roads from Ampati Mini Stadium to DC’s office complex and then back to the auto station at Ampati Bazar after making a representation to the Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh.
