Bengaluru, April 25: Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan etched his name in Indian Premier League history by becoming the fastest batter to reach 2,000 runs in the tournament, achieving the milestone during his side’s clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday.
The stylish left-hander reached the landmark in just 47 innings, breaking the previous record held by Chris Gayle, who had taken 48 innings to get there.
Sudharsan’s achievement underlined his remarkable consistency since making his IPL debut, with the Gujarat Titans batter establishing himself as one of the most dependable top-order players in the competition. With more than 2,000 runs from 47 matches, he has maintained an impressive average and strike rate, backed by multiple half-centuries and centuries.
The feat also made him only the second player after Shubman Gill to cross the 2,000-run mark for Gujarat Titans, further highlighting his importance to the franchise.
Adding to the significance of the record, Sudharsan also reached the milestone in just 1,361 balls, placing him among the quickest players in terms of deliveries faced. In doing so, he joined an elite list featuring Abhishek Sharma, Virender Sehwag and Rishabh Pant.
At the time of reaching the landmark, Sudharsan was in sublime touch, batting fluently and leading Gujarat Titans’ innings with authority. His record-breaking effort once again reinforced his reputation as one of the brightest young batting talents in the IPL and a crucial pillar in Gujarat’s batting line-up. (IANS)
