Jimmy Kimmel responded on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to First Lady Melania Trump’s criticism of a joke he made about her ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
He said the comment was a “light roast” about the couple’s age difference and insisted it was meant as comedy, not a call to violence or assassination.
Kimmel added that he has long spoken out against gun violence and rejected claims that his remarks were dangerous or “beyond the pale.”
Melania Trump described the joke as “hateful and violent” and urged ABC to take action against Kimmel, arguing that his content contributes to political division and a “corrosive” public atmosphere.
She questioned why the network continues to air his show and called on its leadership to respond.
President Donald Trump also supported her criticism, saying Kimmel should be “immediately fired” by ABC and Disney.
The controversy has since sparked wider debate online over political satire, free speech, and the boundaries of late-night comedy, with strong reactions from both supporters and critics over whether the joke was inappropriate or taken out of context. (Agencies)
