TURA: The Meghalaya High Court has cancelled the recommendation made by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) to 10 selected candidates for appointment to the posts of Lecturers in Garo in Government Colleges under the Education Department.

The High Court judgement came after it found that the selection process used by the MPSC for appointment to the same was found to be illegal and contrary to the advertisement dated December 21, 2012. It was also found that the 10 selected candidates recommended by the MPSC had not cleared the NET and thereby, were not eligible for appointment to the respective posts.

The ten candidates are Mimie Thina D Arengh, Christilla Agitok Sangma, Porthyna Rangsa Marak, Sengrik Manda Sangma, Rhinkle Mrong Marak, Maria Grecitha T Sangma, Brainy Mrong Marak, Runavallerie N Sangma, Norime Rangsa Marak and Siljak Rangsa Marak.

Upon further scrutiny it was however found that the Writ Petitioners against the MPSC recommendation had qualified the NET Examination under UGC guidelines and as such were eligible to be considered for appointment according to the High Court ruling.

Following the findings the High Court cancelled the earlier recommendation made by the MPSC and has directed the Commission to make a fresh recommendation as per the related advertisement as early as possible.
