SHILLONG: A Meghalaya Police constable, attached to Congress leader D.D. Lapang as his personal Security officer (PSO), was found dead in his house under mysterious circumstances on Sunday morning.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, M Kharkrang, informed that the constable, Kyrshan Kharnaior, of New Colony, Shillong, shot himself on his head with his service pistol at around 7 am.
Kyrshan was rushed to Woodland Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.
The district police chief stated that it was a case of reported suicide, but added that police were investigating into the matter. Sources informed that Kyrshan received a call at around 7 am after which he shot himself twice.
However, a police source claimed that the death was unnatural, but, quoting the wife of the deceased, the source added that the constable had committed suicide.
Asked whether Lapang’s statement has been recorded in the case, the police source said, “We will take the statement of all concerned.”
