Shillong, May 4: BK Bajoria School edged out Nongthymmai Academy by five runs in a closely contested semifinal of the Inter-School U-15 tournament organised by the Shillong Cricket Association.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, BK Bajoria posted a competitive 144 for 3 in 18 overs, powered by a fluent 76 off 50 balls from Abhishek Das, while Aryan Sunar chipped in with 25.
Avishkar was the pick of the bowlers for Nongthymmai, claiming 1 for 31 from his four overs.
In reply, Nongthymmai Academy fought hard but fell just short at 139 for 7 in their allotted 18 overs, despite a steady 45 off 42 balls by Hetarth Singh.
Abhishek Das returned to impress with the ball as well, picking up 2 for 26, capping an all-round performance that earned him the Player of the Match award.
In the Inter-School U-18 semifinal, Shillong Cricket Academy registered a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Shillong Secondary School in a rain-curtailed match.
Batting first in a reduced 10-over contest, Shillong Secondary School managed 50 for 5, with Mewannai Khongbuh top-scoring with 20. Ayush Kumar Roy starred with the ball, taking 2 for 16 in three overs.Chasing a revised target of 58 under the DLS method, Shillong Cricket Academy reached 58 for 1 in just 8.4 overs, with Devansh Dep contributing 18 runs. He also picked up a wicket earlier and was named Player of the Match for his all-round effort.Two semifinals, two contrasting scripts — one fought till the final ball, the other wrapped up with ease, as the finalists now turn their focus to the ultimate showdown.
