Woman drug peddler gets 10-year RI

SHILLONG: The Court of Special Judge has convicted one Suman Deb for her involvement in a drug peddling case. She has been sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment (RI).

The court in its order passed on June 13 directed Deb to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh and in case of default a further term of simple imprisonment of one year for her offence u/s 22(c) of NDPS Act.

Deb, a residence of Lapalang, was arrested by the Shillong police from Rynjah on April 28, 2010, while she was trying to sell a packet of Spasmoproxyvon.

Subsequently, police conducted a raid at her residence from where a huge consignment of narcotic drugs was recovered.

Accordingly, a case under the provision of NDPS Act was registered and after thorough investigation, the accused was chargesheeted.
