SHILLONG: Taking exception to the Chief Minister’s statement in the recently-concluded Assembly session that no decision had yet been taken on the proposal of an ANVC-B camp in West Khasi Hills, the outfit on Wednesday reiterated that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma “will have to provide a camp for ANVC-B cadres in Khasi Hills”.

In a statement issued here, the ANVC-B said the Chief Minister had invited them to join the peace pact in December 2012 knowing well that ANVC-B represents cadres from West Khasi Hills District also.

“It is his responsibility to provide us with a camp now. In Khasi Hills, there are land (Aking land)

belonging to Maraks and Sangmas who are not opposing the proposal for setting up of the camp. If the Government so wishes, we can provide No Objection Certificates from these clans,” the ANVC-B asserted.

The ANVC-B, further, blamed the State Government for deliberately delaying the matter and aggravating the situation in Garo Hills.

The Government’s proposal for an ANVC-B camp in West Khasi Hills has met with stiff protests from pressure groups and political parties with UDP legislator Embhah Syiemlieh recently stating in the Assembly that he would not allow setting up of any ANVC-B camp in Khasi-Jaintia-Ri Bhoi areas.

In reply, the Chief Minister had stated that a conscious decision on the demand of ANVC-B will be taken only after looking into the various aspects.
