Nagaland Music Task Force organizes Tree Plantation at RCEMPA

Kohima: World music day observed on Saturday by Music Task Force (MTF), under the Nagaland Ministry of Youth Resource and Sports, has organised a Tree Plantation in the campus of the Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA) at Jotsoma, near Kohima.

The ‘Tree Plantation at RCEMPA’ was led by Nagaland Commissioner and Secretary for Land Resources Menukhol John and the Director of MTF, Gugs Chishi respectively.

Interacting with the reporter during the programme, Chishi asserted that the main objective for organizing tree plantation in the campus was to have a sense of belongingness and to develop a spirit of cohesiveness amongst the musicians in the State.

The RCEMPA, which was inaugurated on December 1,2013, has been under the custody of MTF and is being used for promotion of music and arts, he added. A number of bands and musicians actively took part in the plantation, wherein Rhododendron and flowering plants were used as the main species. Notable bands like Divine Connection, Tetseo Sisters and noted musicians like Theja Meru, Mele Pucho, Mengu Suokhrie were also took part in the function.

It may be mentioned here that some of the finest female musicians from Nagaland will come together, to sing and support children living with cancer today at the RCEMPA, Jotsoma, about 10 kms from Kohima this evening. The event, ‘Music Against Cancer,’ is being organized by ‘SpeakGuru Foundation-‘Touching Little Lives”, a Christian Foundation which serves cancer patients and their families, provide resources for schools lacking basic educational amenities as well as expand and spread environmental conservation awareness as the June 21 is also World Music Day.

The Foundation also strives to aid in narrowing the gap between the needy families, and ensuring that every child unable to receive adequate cancer treatment has access to the Foundation’s facilities including financial and spiritual support. (UNI)
