SHILLONG: Former legislator PM Syiem has urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to strengthen and expand the Industrial Training Institute by bringing modern techniques with well trained instructors as this will expand the role of ITI towards skill development as per the requirement of the next generation in the field of self employment.

Appreciating the stand taken by the Government to set up Skill Development Centres, Syiem said that there is a huge scope of self employment in the State in various trades which at present being manned by people from outside the state due to lack of modern techniques available with the local people. “This has badly affected the indigenous people of the state in terms of employment”, he said.

The Government should also set up more ITIs in the sub-divisional headquarters so as to cater to the requirements of the youth who are eager to be trained by qualified ITI instructors for their future self employment, he added.
