Bengal CM says around 30L illegal beneficiaries got scheme benefits
Kolkata, May 27: Around 30 lakh illegal beneficiaries, including males, had been receiving monthly amounts under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme introduced by the previous Mamata Banerjee-led regime in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari told media persons on Wednesday. He also said that barring these 30 lakh illegal beneficiaries, all others who had been receiving monthly allowances under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme would be automatically enrolled under the Annapurna Yojana scheme, which will replace the existing programme. He further said that legal beneficiaries currently enrolled under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme would continue receiving benefits under the old scheme until they are shifted to the Annapurna Yojana, which will provide an enhanced monthly allowance of Rs 3,000. The CM appealed to all concerned to fill up the enrolment forms for the Annapurna Yojana at the earliest. The portal for enrolment under the scheme was officially launched and opened for beneficiaries on Wednesday. (IANS)
TN CM Vijay meets PM on various issues
New Delhi/Chennai, May 27: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and discussed matters concerning the state, including the Mekedatu dam issue, fishermen arrests and the Tamil invocation song row. The meeting assumes significance as it was the TVK chief’s maiden official visit to the national capital after assuming office earlier this month. A government press release said the CM expressed serious concern over Karnataka’s announcement of a ground-breaking ceremony for the Mekedatu dam project across the Cauvery river, saying the move was completely against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) and the verdict of the Supreme Court. The CM requested Modi to issue a clear directive allowing the Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu (invocation song) to be sung at the start of government events. During the meeting, Vijay also urged the prime minister to take strong measures to secure the immediate release of Tamil Nadu fishermen and their vessels. (PTI)
