International Day against Drug Abuse & Trafficing observed

SHILLONG: Several awareness programmes were held in parts of the state on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking on Thursday.

An awareness programme was held at Khasi National Durbar Hall, Mawkhar organized by Voluntary Health Association of Meghalaya. Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem, who attended the programme spoke on the ill effects of drug abuse on health and society.

A rally was also organised at Mawlai Nonglum near Thangkhiew Petrol Pump in observance of the programme wherein students of various schools took part.

A similar function was also held in South West Garo Hills.

“Students must be aware of the ill-effects of drugs as well as alcoholic drinks and keep away from them at any cost. Parents must monitor their children’s behavior and activities at all times to ensure that they do not get into such habits,” South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh said while speaking during an awareness programme organized by the Social Welfare Department at Garudachal Vidyapeeth Secondary School, Belbari.
