Shillong, June 4: Meghalaya’s young kickboxers delivered an impressive performance at the Junior Boys’ and Girls’ National Kickboxing Championship, returning home with nine medals, including three gold, three silver and three bronze, from the competition held in Khurda, Odisha, from May 30 to June 3.
The Meghalaya contingent was coached by Daniella I.W. Mylliemngap, an international kickboxer and Asian Championship bronze medallist.Among the standout performers was Derick Dashankur Nongrum, who retained his national title for the third consecutive year in the K1 Rules below-54kg category after defeating his opponent from Goa in the final. Gold medals were also won by Aldrin Osmond Pariat (K1 Rules below 60kg) and Darren Ervin Blah (Full Contact below 51kg), who overcame rivals from Himachal Pradesh and Odisha respectively.
In the girls’ section, Nathania Mylliem Umlong secured a silver medal in the Low Kick below-48kg category. Meghalaya’s other silver medallists were Misariio Nongdhar and Sumarlang Kharumnuid, who finished runners-up in their respective events after reaching the finals.Bronze medals were claimed by Aedriel Gordon Ranee, Merapkerlang Lyngwa and Hamebuhnam Pathaw after reaching the semifinals of their categories.
