Mother arrested for infanticide

SHILLONG: Police have arrested the mother of a newborn baby whose body was recovered from a drain at Upper New Colony, Laitumkhrah, on June 26 at around 9.30 am.

The woman has been identified as Lydia Mawrie (26). Following her arrest she was admitted at Ganesh Das Hospital, Shillong.

Earlier, on June 24 at around 8 am, police had recovered one severed head and an arm of a newborn baby (1-2 day old) from the compound of Chote Lal Rai at Law-U-Sib, Shillong.

A search for the body was conducted but without any success. No one has been arrested as yet.
